Driving License New Rules: Acquiring a driving license has been simplified now. The central government has implemented changes that eliminate the need for individuals to visit the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or bear long queues. This streamlined process has made obtaining a driving license much more convenient for the general public.

Driving test not required for DL

Recent changes to the driving license regulations have eliminated the need for a traditional driving test at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs). The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued these updated rules, which are now in effect, providing a significant relief to those awaiting their driving licenses.

Enrollment in Certified Driving Schools for Training

Under the new guidelines, individuals seeking a driving license no longer have to endure the waiting period for a driving test at the RTO. Instead, they can enroll in any recognized driving training school for the required training. Upon successful completion of the training and passing the test at the school, applicants will receive a certificate. This certificate serves as the basis for obtaining the driving license.

Key Features of the New Regulations

The Ministry of Road and Transport has outlined specific guidelines and conditions for these training centers:

(1). Land Requirement: Training centers for two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and light motor vehicles must have a minimum of one acre of land, while centers for medium and heavy passenger goods vehicles or trailers require at least two acres.

(2). Trainer Qualifications: Trainers must possess a minimum qualification of 12th grade and have at least five years of driving experience. They should also demonstrate a thorough understanding of traffic rules.

(3). Curriculum Details: The ministry has prescribed a teaching curriculum for these driving centers. For light motor vehicle courses, the duration is a maximum of four weeks, totaling up to 29 hours. The curriculum is divided into two parts: theory and practical.

(4). Training Hours: Participants are required to spend 21 hours practicing driving on various road types, including basic roads, rural roads, highways, city roads, and mastering maneuvers such as reversing, parking, uphill, and downhill driving. The theoretical component spans eight hours, covering topics such as road etiquette, traffic education, accident prevention, first aid, and fuel efficiency.

These new regulations signify a significant shift in the process of obtaining a driving license, emphasizing structured training and competency assessment over traditional driving tests at RTOs. The centers are not only restricted to light, medium and heavy motor vehicles but will also provide industry-specific specialized training. The course will fulfill the shortage of skilled drivers on the road.
